In Sanskrit, the word RISHI means the giver of Light (RI - Light and SHI - giver). They are real and existing Light entities who dwell in the higher realms of creation. They may not appear in their physical bodies but their presence and energies can be felt and experienced when we connect to them with deep love and devotion.

Each Rishi is unique in terms of knowledge and powers. And each has his own way of teaching.

May it be in the field of art, literature, medicine, astrology, science etc., Rishis have always blessed humanity with extensive knowledge across diverse fields, every time the world felt the need for it. But their primary duty is to educate us spiritually and guide us back to Light, our source and abode.

Rishis are enlightened Masters who are not carried away by worldly illusions. They are the sublime manifestation of an ideal divine being. Their guidance, compassion and love for humanity are immeasurable. For this reason, the Rishis have been extolled in the spiritual tradition of the Sanathana Dharma.

Rishi Panchami which falls on the 5th day of the waxing moon during Bhadrapad month (August-September) is celebrated every year honouring the selfless service of these great Masters by fasting and prayers. However, the real worship lies in completely surrendering to them with love and devotion with a real effort to transform self.

Rishis are constantly guiding us. If we meditate regularly, we get all the guidance from the Rishis.

Saptharishis are the Guiding Lights of this Universe. They basically live in Sathya loka, the plane of truth, bliss, love and light. Whenever situation demands, they take birth on this earth and guide the humanity. They are the first main members of the Spiritual Hierarchy.

There are billions of earths. Only a few lakhs are equipped with life. Saptharishis appoint other great Rishis to manage the affairs of each earth in all these planes.

To keep us reminded of the great Rishis, there is a star constellation (Ursa Major – Great Bear) named ‘Saptharishis Mandala’, representing the great Saptharishis.

At present, there are a little more than 90,000 Rishi Workers on our earth compared to 144,000 a few years before. Each Rishi Worker reports to Athri Maharishi who is incharge of our earth now. Athri Maharishi has taken human birth many times. He is one of the Saptharishis of the present Manvantara. The present batch of Saptharishis are Bhrighu, Athri, Angirasa, Vashishta, Pulasthya, Pulaha and Krathu Maharishi. All of them are Manasa Putras (mind-born sons of Lord Brahma).
